Our Kids Sustainability Commitments
We’re known for looking after kids’ feet – but what about the Earth they walk on? We’re working to make our children’s shoe collections more sustainable.
We’ve launched pioneering brand partnerships, including a consciously crafted organic cotton collection with leading sustainable clothing brand Frugi and a resale initiative with pre-loved platform dotte. And our children’s shoes are now underpinned by five key features that minimise our impact on the planet for the next generation – from recycled materials to responsible leathers.
Our Kids Conscious Commitments
Recycled Sketch Mesh Linings
Our School and School Sport collections use breathable sketch mesh linings to keep busy feet feeling breezy – and they’re crafted with 50% post-consumer recycled content for a smaller impact on our Earth.
Chrome-free Leather Linings
All our children’s shoes use chrome-free leather linings (tanned without chrome). This reduces the use of chemicals, minimises risk of contamination in the supply chain, and makes it easier for the material to biodegrade at the end of its lifecycle.
Bio-based Eva Soles And Midsoles
Lightweight EVA soles and midsoles not only put a spring in their step – but 12% of the EVA is bio-based Braskem, which is made from renewable sugarcane. As well as being a more sustainable material, Braskem helps to reduce greenhouse gases in the air, as the production process captures and stores CO2.
Responsible Leathers
Clarks are founding members of the Leather Working Group (LWG), an independent collective promoting sustainable environmental and business practices in the leather industry. 100% of the leather used for our kids shoes is responsibly sourced, from tanneries that work to LWG standards, actively reducing their waste and decreasing their energy and water use.
Recycled Materials
Toe boxes and counter materials – the components that give our kids’ shoes their shape – contain recycled materials, helping to reduce manufacturing waste and minimising our footprint wherever possible.
